Sunset Apartments

The Sunset Apartments were designed in 1962 by Herbert Duncan, with Stark Wilson Duncan Architects (SWD). This architectural firm designed several buildings located in the country club plaza area of Kansas City, Missouri. This building was experiencing deterioration of the concrete eyebrows, vertical concrete columns, and brick masonry. This project consisted of concrete repair of the eyebrows and columns, after which a deck coating was applied to the tops of the eyebrows, and the rest of the concrete surfaces received a masonry coating. The brick masonry also received miscellaneous tuckpointing, settlement crack repair, and cleaning of atmospheric and biological staining. The brick entryway received a potassium silicate stain, which provided a more modernized appearance.
