North Dakota State Capitol

The North Dakota State Capitol, located in Bismarck, ND, was built in the 1920’s after the original courthouse burned down.  The structure which is referred to as the “on the Prarie” is the tallest structure in North Dakota.  Mid-Continental Restoration performed the majority of the work on this Indiana Limestone façade structure at night so as not to disturb the occupants.  Limestone pieces were re-anchored, replaced, Dutchman repaired, patched and finally repointed and cleaned.  The crews worked at heights of 250 feet while handling limestone pieces which weighed in excess of 700lbs.  After pulling some limestone pieces the backup wall behind the limestone had to be dismantled and repaired before the new limestone piece could be set in place and anchored.
